An oldie but a goodie!
If you’re wondering what Emotion Works might look like once fully embedded across your school, take a look at this video compilation of Emotion Works learning and teaching shared by staff and pupils at Towerbank Primary School, Edinburgh at their parent showcase back in 2015.
Towerbank is the Primary school Claire’s own children attended and was a great piloting site for trialling the approach across 21 classes from Nursery to P7!
As you’ll see from the ideas and activities listed below, teachers across the school were able to achieve Emotion Works outcomes in a variety of ways using learning experiences linked to current literacy work, topics and wider curriculum planning.
Watch out for the following themes as you watch the video:
- Nursery – All kinds of feelings (relating to ‘People who help us’ interests and experiences)
- P1 – Mr Men and Little Miss literacy topic
- P2 – The Owl who was afraid of the dark (in the context of ‘Sun, Moon and Stars’ science topic)
- P3 – Charlie and the Chocolate Factory class novel, linked in with ‘Body and Senses’ science topic. Intensity cog learning.
- P4 – A Midsummer Night’s Dream literacy topic
- P5 – Getting Creative…animation, song writing, drama and movie-making projects
- P6 – Emotion Works at School Camp
- P7 – High School Transition (with a Pop Art Theme)
- Across the school… Blooms Taxonomy, Fischy Music, PE, iPad technologies, World Book Day writing project
