Wonder-ful Display – Reading Comprehension Task

A chapter containing lots of emotion in the book ‘Wonder’ has been used in an Emotion Works comprehension task by upper primary pupils who used coloured highlighters matching the cog colours to identify the different aspects of emotion in the text, and then they used a 7-part note sheet to reconstruct the information around the Component Model.

A closer look at one of the examples is shown below.

To prepare for a task like this it’s helpful to use the ‘Coggle’ planning approach to identify suitable excerpts within the text that contain references to each of the cogs being studied. Within a novel study you may be able to identify particular pages or passages within the book that provide good descriptions of the different cogs, if you’d rather focus on one cog at a time.
