Emotion Works is an educational programme for emotional learning and literacy.

Our resources and training packages for Teachers, Early Years practitioners and Education Support workers provide developmental guidance and user-friendly tools to for learning and talking about emotion across all ages and stages.

Created by teacher, curriculum designer and educational consultant Claire Murray, the Emotion Works programme has been developed and piloted over a 10-year period with excellent contributions and endorsements from practitioners, parents and learners alike.


The key aspects of the Emotion Works Programme

  • applicable at Early Years, Primary and Secondary stages

What is unique about the Emotion Works Programme?

  • Emotion Works is ‘home grown’ in Scotland so it has been specifically developed to deliver Curriculum for Excellence, while being mindful of the wider agenda of GIRFEC, the Scottish Attainment Challenge etc.
  • It is a truly inclusive approach, designed from the start with the needs of children & young people in mind who have additional support needs relating to learning and well-being
  • Our hard copy resources and training packages are provided with access to the Emotion Works web platform of ongoing support including online training videos, digital resources and practice examples

Emotion Works as an Organisation

Claire Murray founded Emotion Works in February 2013 to share her work more widely and connect with people and organisations working towards similar goals.

The Emotion Works social enterprise business model is geared towards providing high quality, affordable products and services in the field of emotional education that are accessible to all. As a registered ‘Community Interest Company’ (CIC) in the UK, our finances and activities are monitored annually by a regulatory body to ensure we are working to address the needs of our identified community. The Emotion Works community interest statement is as follows…

Emotion Works is committed to achieving positive outcomes in learning and well-being for all children and young people, and we have a particular interest in working on projects that help improve outcomes for those who face additional challenges due to disability or disadvantage.



Our core team consists of Claire Murray, Director & Trainer and Catriona Harris, Administrator both operating from the Emotion Works classroom.

We also have a voluntary advisory group who generously share their knowledge and skills across education, health, finance and social enterprise sectors.

Our contracted associates include illustrator & designer Diane Cook, web developer Shaun Perry, and the team at Edinburgh Printing.

Emotion Works also has a growing team of trainers who are currently delivering training as part of their contracted role or in a free lance capacity.



Our customers span 26 Scottish Local Authorities and we are also working with a number of charities and other organisations across Scotland and beyond.
